I finished reading this book today. It reflect the lives of the monarchy in India, and how India grdually gain Independence from British.
But mainly it's focused on their princesses, with special highlight to Chimnabai, Sunity, Indira and Ayesha. They were all related by blood or marriage. Chimnabai was Indira mum, and Indira was Ayesha's mum, and Sunity was Indira's mother-in-law.
They were the remarkable women in India, cos they built school and with their knowledge they helped make the lives if women better.
In those traditional days, India's princesses were all hidden behind thick wall, no education and were dominated by men.
But with time and those women wisdom, thing gradually changed better for women. Even though, they lived in a very priviledged lifestyle, with tons of jewellery and no lack of worries for money, but their private lives were a mess.
Their husbands and sons all died prematured from alochol abuse. But they managed to pick themselves up and move on doing great thing for their country.
It's an interesting book to read about their past culture and how people worships their Maharaja (King).
P.S.: The book cover lady was Indira @ 40 years old. I was in awe and wonder how she managed to maintain her look despite she's 40.
